Junior Doctor Arrested For Allegedly Raping 13-Year-Old Patient In Agra Hospital

 

 

GUWAHATI: A junior doctor from Sarojini Naidu Medical College and Hospital (SNMCH) in Agra was arrested on September 10 for allegedly raping a 13-year-old patient admitted to the paediatric department.

The accused, identified as 28-year-old Dilshad Hussain, a first-year post-graduate student, was taken into custody and later sent to judicial custody by a local court on Wednesday.The incident reportedly took place on September 10, when the minor girl, who was suffering from fever, was sexually assaulted during a medical examination late at night.

According to the victim's mother, the accused doctor was on duty at 11:55 PM when he assaulted the girl under the pretext of a medical check-up. The girl had been admitted to the emergency ward on September 6 and later transferred to the paediatric department the following day.


After the complaint was lodged, the SNMCH administration suspended the accused doctor and set up three committees to investigate the matter. Dr. Prashant Kumar, the principal of the medical college, confirmed that disciplinary, departmental, and internal committees have been constituted to probe the allegations. He also refuted claims of any delay in action by the hospital administration.

A case has been registered against Hussain under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, including charges related to rape of a minor under 12 years of age. Sukanya Sharma, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) for Agra, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.


“This is a shameful act, and we will fight until justice is served for the victim,” said Digvijay Nath Tiwari, Prant Sanyojak of Bajrang Dal. The arrest comes at a time when junior doctors in Kolkata are protesting the recent rape and murder of a fellow doctor, further highlighting concerns over safety within medical institutions.
