GUWAHATI: Jharkhand will send a delegation to Assam to evaluate the living conditions of tea tribes, which consist of descendants from labourers who migrated over a century ago.

This decision was announced by Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren during his first cabinet meeting on Thursday, November 28, after beginning his second consecutive term in office.
According to Soren, many people from Jharkhand, who are now settled in Assam, face social and economic challenges despite contributing a lot to the Northeastern state’s tea industry. “The tribal community from Jharkhand residing in Assam is being marginalised. We are forming an all-party panel to study their situation and present a report to the state government,” he stated.
The initiative comes following a letter Soren wrote in September to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, highlighting the struggles of the tea tribes and urging for immediate action.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led coalition recently retained power in the Assembly elections, securing 56 of 81 seats, while leaving the BJP-led NDA with 24.
