GUWAHATI: In the early hours of Saturday, October 26, Israel launched a series of airstrikes on Iranian military targets. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that the attacks were a response to what it described as “months of continuous attacks” by Iran and its proxies, including multiple fronts of conflict and direct strikes on Israeli soil since October 7, 2023.

According to a post on social media platform X, the IDF Spokesperson Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari talk about the conclusion of Israel’s response to Iran’s aggression , saying: “In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel—right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran. ” The message highlighted Israel's stance on self-defence, stating, “The regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been relentlessly attacking Israel…including direct attacks from Iranian soil… Israel has the right and the duty to respond.” Israeli officials assured that the country's “defensive and offensive capabilities are fully mobilized.”
The Iranian government reported explosions in western Tehran and indicated that Israel had targeted multiple sites, including locations in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces. Iran's air defence claimed it intercepted several projectiles, though limited damage was reportedly sustained.
Following the attacks, the Iranian aviation authority announced a temporary suspension of all flights in and out of the country.
Tensions have been escalating since Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on October 1. The assault, which was largely thwarted by Israel’s defence systems, was reportedly in retaliation for the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh on Iranian soil in July—an act Iran attributed to Israeli forces, though Israel did not confirm involvement. Iranian media additionally reported Israeli air strikes on Syria, specifically targeting military sites in central and southern regions.
In Washington, President Joe Biden has been briefed on the situation and is monitoring developments, according to a White House official, who clarified that the US played no direct role in Israel’s latest operations.
