India’s Direct Tax Collections Surge 16.45% In FY25 To ₹15.82 Lakh Crore

 

GUWAHATI: India’s direct tax collections have registered robust growth in FY25, rising 16.45% year-on-year (YoY) to ₹15.82 lakh crore as of Tuesday, December 17.

According to the latest government data, gross tax collections surged 20.32% to ₹19.21 lakh crore, driven by strong performances in corporate and personal income taxes.

Corporate tax collections recorded steady growth, with gross receipts rising to ₹9.24 lakh crore, up from ₹7.90 lakh crore in FY24. After accounting for refunds, net corporate tax collections reached ₹7.42 lakh crore, a 9% increase from ₹6.83 lakh crore in the same period last year.

Non-corporate taxes, including personal income tax, showed even stronger growth. Gross collections climbed to ₹9.53 lakh crore, up from ₹7.81 lakh crore in FY24. Net collections in this category rose significantly to ₹7.97 lakh crore from ₹6.50 lakh crore, marking a growth of 22.61%.

Additionally, tax refunds issued during the period amounted to ₹3.38 lakh crore, a sharp 42.49% increase from last year, reflecting the government’s commitment to expediting returns. Advance tax collections also saw a substantial increase, rising 20.9% to ₹7.56 lakh crore.

Corporate advance tax collections, meanwhile, grew by 16.71%, while non-corporate taxes rose by an impressive 35%.
