GUWAHATI: A video has gone viral on social media which shows a group of Indian shepherds engaged in a confrontation with Chinese soldiers regarding their right to graze cattle in the area near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh near the Chinese border.
The video, which was reportedly shot on January 2, depicts several Chinese soldiers and around three armoured vehicles of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) blaring loud sirens signalling the local shepherds to leave while the shepherds stood their ground and engaging in verbal exchanges with PLA troops.
The video shows the Ladakhi shepherds telling the Chinese soldiers that they are within the territory of India, with some shepherds appearing to pick up stones as the level of tensions elevate even though no violence reportedly occurred and the soldiers in the video look unarmed.
Councillor Konchok Stanzin shared the video on X on Tuesday, January 30, and said, “See how our local people are showing their bravery in front of the PLA claiming that the area they are stopping is our nomad's grazing land. PLA stopping our nomads from grazing in our territory. Seems it is never a never-ending process due to different lines of perceptions. But I salute our nomads, who always stand to protect our land and stand as the second guardian force of the nation.”
“No doubt that our forces are always with civilians resolving the grazing issues with the PLA, it's all because of their support that our nomads could bravely face the PLA,” he further said.
Cattle-grazing in the border areas at Ladakh had ceased since the deadly clash between the Indian army and the PLA at Galwan valley in 2020 which led to the deaths of 20 Indian soldiers and unrevealed number of casualties among Chinese soldiers.
