GUWAHATI: The counting of votes polled across 543 constituencies of India for Lok Sabha elections began at 8 am today, June 4.
According to the current trends, significant gains have been made by the Opposition's INDIA bloc surpassing the 200-seat milestone compared to the 2019 figures, the NDA still appears to return to power, having already crossed the majority mark.
The Opposition INDIA bloc has reversed all exit poll predictions, leading in at least 227 seats, according to the latest numbers. However, despite a stiff contest, the BJP-led NDA is inching closer towards the 300-mark, standing at 295 at the moment.(12:11 am)
The Surat seat in Gujarat was already won by BJP uncontested after Congress nominee’s nomination papers were rejected and the other candidates opted out.
Among the key constituencies is Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh as PM Narendra Modi targets a third straight term as MP for the seat.
Whether the National Democratic Alliance, led by the BJP, will see a return to power or can the Opposition’s INDIA bloc will defy the exit polls predictions, is the question.
BJP is leading in 232 seats, while INC in 99, Samajwadi Party (SP) in 36, and All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) in 22, as on 10:50 am, June 4.

Uttar Pradesh: BJP's Mahesh Sharma leading Gautam Buddh Nagar
BJP candidate and Union minister Ajay Mishra trailing behind Samajwadi Party leader Utkarsh Verma in UP's Kheri by 4,730 votes, as per EC. INDIA alliance is giving tough competition to NDA in the state. BJP's Mahesh Sharma was leading with 26,176 votes in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar Lok Sabha seat after the first round of counting on Tuesday, according to the local election office. The INDIA bloc's Mahendra Nagar was second with 7,917 votes, the BSP's Rajendra Solanki was third with 6,233 votes and NOTA was fourth with 265 votes.

BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar is leading in Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency over his nearest rival, Shashi Tharoor of the INC. He is currently leading by over 4,900 votes.

BJP leading in 14 seats in Rajasthan
BJP candidates leading at 14 of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in Rajasthan, while Congress is leading at eight seats and three INDIA bloc parties at one seat each. The INDIA bloc parties are CPI(M), Rashtriya Loktantrik Party and Bharatiya Adivasi Party, leading at Sikar, Nagaur and Banswara, respectively.
The leading BJP candidates include Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Bhupender Yadav and Om Birla.
Thackrey, Shinde in close fight in Maharashtra
In the 13 constituencies in Maharashtra where Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena and the Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, are fighting head-to-head in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, both the factions are in a very tight contest. Of the 13, Shiv Sena (UBT) is leading in 6 while the Shinde-led party is leading in 7. The latter is part of the NDA alliance while the Thackarey-led party is with the INDIA bloc.
In the two seats where the Nationalist Congress Party led by Ajit Pawar and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) are fighting head-to-head, the Sharad Pawar-led faction, which is supporting the INDIA alliance, is leading in both the seats. Ajit Pawar’s NCP is supporting the NDA coalition this time.
