For India, the match represents a crucial opportunity to end a drought of ICC trophies since their 2013 ICC Champions Trophy victory. Despite reaching the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup undefeated, India fell to Australia under the leadership of Pat Cummins.

Both teams have remained unbeaten throughout the T20 World Cup 2024, making this final historic regardless of the outcome. The winner will be the first team to claim the trophy while staying undefeated in the tournament.

This final may also be the last World Cup appearance for several Indian veterans, including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, who are keen to secure a World Cup win for India. Additionally, it will be the last opportunity for outgoing Head Coach Rahul Dravid to make his mark in the history books.

ROAD TO FINAL

For India, the road to the final has been flawless by beating four teams from the Super 8 to the semi-finals. India beat Afghanistan by 47 runs in the first round of Super 8. Then they took on Bangladesh whom they defeated by 50 runs before beating Australia by 24 runs. India then cruised through the semi-finals defeating England by 68 runs.

On the other hand, South Africa's (SA) road to the final has also been nothing short of spectacular with them defeating USA, England & West Indies by 18 runs, 7 runs, and 3 wickets respectively, in the Super 8. The Proteas then took on the elated Afghanistan in the semi-finals defeating them by 9 wickets.

However, it remains to be seen as to which team takes home the winning trophy on May 29.
The match starts at 8 P.M. (IST)
