GUWAHATI: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT-G) has designed bamboo furniture to meet the requirements of Primary Health Centres (PHC's) in rural villages of Assam.
The team from the Department of Design at the institute said that they set about it because there was an urgency in improving basic infrastructure facilities in primary healthcare centres using locally available materials and with participation from the local community.
The Department of Design has desgined the furniture aimed for a sustainable and participatory design approach by utilisation of locally available materials, craft skill manpower led by the active participation of local government departments to achieve these goals.
