Heroin Seized In Guwahati Along With Cash; Four Detained


GUWAHATI: The police intercepted a smuggling operation involving contraband suspected to be heroin under the NDPS Act on December 25. The operation unfolded this morning when a police team led by Tapan Kalita, Dispur (ACP), apprehended two individuals transporting illicit items in a truck near the Veterinary Campus on GS Road, Dispur.

The initial tip-off, received at around 9:00 AM, indicated that the suspects were travelling from Lumding to Guwahati in a vehicle bearing the registration number AS 01 RC 9841. The police intercepted the truck at approximately 10:30 AM and detained the two occupants, Raj Kumar Thakur (25 years), son of Upendra Thakur, hailing from Kalna village, Madhubani, Bihar and Sanjeet Kamat (21 years), son of Phudeni Kamat, resident of Salha village, Samastipur, Bihar.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 10 soap cases containing contraband items, suspected to be heroin, weighing 110.81 gram, along with cash amounting to ₹5,000. The truck and the recovered items were seized in the presence of independent witnesses.

Further investigation, including statements from the detained duo, implicated two additional individuals namely Saju Rahman Lashkar, son of Sirajuddin Lashkar, from Bagabazar Lokhnathpur, Silchar, and Amirul Islam, son of Abdul Munaf, also from Bagabazar Lokhnathpur, Silchar.

The accomplices were apprehended near the Jorabat area along with another vehicle, bearing registration number MZ 01 L 8576, which was also seized in the presence of witnesses.
The police have initiated a detailed investigation into the case, and efforts are underway. Further updates are awaited as the probe progresses.
