According to local residents, these footpaths have become difficult to navigate of late, particularly during peak hours, as drug users occupy the area openly.

“Earlier, they used to stay holed up mostly on the Lachit Nagar’s foot overbridge,” shared a local resident from Lachit Nagar with GPlus. “But now, they’ve grown bold enough to cover the entire footpaths as well.”

“The police observe and do nothing,” said another. “Often, traffic policemen patrol the area, but they don’t take any action to relocate the drug addicts.”

The congregation of these drug users has also led to rising concerns over cleanliness and public safety from shop owners, as the footpaths are constantly littered with various forms of drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, people have urged the local authorities to address the issue promptly.

Some residents suggested increased patrolling by police or relocating these individuals to rehabilitation facilities to ensure both the addicts’ welfare and the safety of the public.
