GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Police has taken immediate and stringent action against a traffic police officer for misbehaving and assaulting a general public in the city streets, said a senior police official.
The response comes after a Traffic Police officer was caught on camera physically assaulting a two-wheeler rider in Paltan Bazaar on the occasion of Holi, on March 18.
The video showed a two-wheeler rider with a child and a woman on the pillion. When the rider retaliated on the assault, three more khaki police personnel and another traffic police further assaulted the man.
The traffic police officer, Fakhruddin Ahmed of Paltan Bazaar Traffic Branch has been suspended for indiscipline conduct.
A senior official of Guwahati Police said that the supervising officer has also been reserved closed for questioning.
"We are committed not to harass the public without any charges. Immediate stringent action will be taken against any police officer who misbehaves with its citizens," said the senior official.
