Guwahati to observe Bandh on Monday; most schools to remain closed

Guwahati: The Congress party has called for a nationwide strike or ‘Bharat Bandh’ on Monday, September 10, 2018, to protest against the Narendra Modi government over the spiraling fuel prices in the country. The call for the Bharat Bandh has been supported by several political parties at the national and the regional level.

Normal life is expected to be disrupted tomorrow as parties have vowed to make the bandh a success.

The impact of the Bharat Bandh in Guwahati will result in several schools and colleges being closed. However, there is no offical annoucement from the government about a bandh. "While most of the political organizations in Assam have supported the bandh, people have also resigned to the fact that Guwahati will be affected only because people will take it as a holiday," a senior professor from a private college in Guwahati told G Plus.

Congress in-charge for Assam, Harish Rawat along with party activists took out a torch light rally in Guwahati in support of tomorrow's Bharat bandh against fuel price hike.

While school and college students were informed that a holiday will be observed if the news declares it a bandh, there has been no official announcement from school/college authorities barring few, such as St. Mary's Guwahati and NERIM about their institues being closed.

Adding to the citizens woes, several petrol pumps will also be reportedly closed tomorrow.

More details are awaited.
