Three arrested while carrying gold in rectums

GUWAHATI: Gold smuggling is on the rise through air. In two cases of gold smuggling, officials of the Customs Department and the CISF on Sunday arrested three persons from Silchar and Guwahati Airports and managed to recover a total of 2 kgs of gold bars. The estimated value of the gold is Rs 50 lakh. The gold was hidden inside their rectums.

Two persons identified as Barkat Khan and Rajendra Sribar, were held at the Silchar Airport with total 10 gold biscuits weighing 1.6 kgs. The duo were travelling from Imphal to Delhi via Kolkata.

In the second incident, one D Nandigiri, who was carrying a 400 gm gold bar in his rectum, was arrested at the Guwahati Airport. The accused was travelling from Guwahati to Mumbai with the consignment.
