Guwahati: Search Operation Still On For Minor Boy Swept Away In Flood

GUWAHATI: An 8 -year -old boy, Avilash Sarkar, was swept away by the waters of a roadside drain in Jyoti Nagar locality on Thursday, July 4 around 11 PM. Talking to GPlus on Friday, Avilash's mother said, "He was returning home on a scooter with his father and another man.

The father works in a garage and was coming back after closing the shop. As they navigated the slippery road, the scooter skidded and the boy fell into the drain."

A resident in Jyotinagar talking to GPlus said, "We heard that the father caught him by his t-shirt, but he slipped out and was swept away by the gushing water in the drain, which carried him along with a banana tree.”

Talking to GPlus, Mrigen Sarania, Mayor of GMC, said, "The water from the drain goes to Choonsali and Chandmari. Drains are being dug up to find the boy. All the departments are actively working on it."

At the scene, an official from the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) talking to GPlus said, "We were informed around 12 AM and have been searching for the boy since then."

 

Till the time of filing this report late in the evening, the search and rescue operation is still on.
