GUWAHATI: The Assam Trunk (AT) Road of Guwahati, stretching from Vishal Mega Mart to the start of the Athgaon Railway Flyover is finally undergoing construction after a long wait. The road has been in a poor condition for a long time, filled with multiple potholes. After constant woes from commuters and complaints made to the Public Works Department (PWD) authorities, the road has been partially reconstructed, and a few parts of the road are still undergoing construction.
The poor condition of roads in various parts of Guwahati leaves residents unhappy and angry.
The condition of the road connecting the VIP road in Lokhra leading to Beharbari has been in deplorable condition for months. Residents’ woes have gone unheard and the road has not been taken care of till now.
Similarly, residents of the Lalganesh, Ramnagar areas of Guwahati continue to suffer due to the poor condition of the road in Block D of the area. Despite repetitive complaints to the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), the authorities continue to overlook the matter.
With the absence of a proper drainage system, water logging in the area is a constant problem throughout the year and the rainy season makes it worse.
Work for the reconstruction of roads in some parts of Guwahati has begun after receiving constant pressure from the opposition and the media.
After much waiting, work of reconstruction of the Six Mile road has begun and has been completed and so has the Mazar road of Guwahati. However, local residents and commuters remain dissatisfied with the standard of work on the road.
