Guwahati: Residents Frustrated As Water Leakages Persist In Fatasil Ambari And Zoo Road

GUWAHATI: Residents in Fatasil Ambari and Zoo Road in Guwahati have raised concerns over persistent water pipe leakages, which surfaced prominently on Saturday, October 26, near Fatasil Point, close to Chaturbhuj. This latest incident, along with similar issues in the Zoo Road area, has led to growing frustration among locals over what they consider flaws in the infrastructure managed by the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB).

The public is questioning the efficiency of GJB, noting that such problems seem to recur despite recent maintenance efforts. Speaking to GPlus, a senior GJB official explained that while no work was scheduled due to a visit from the Vice President, the department was initially unaware of the situation. “The leakage will be mended. As flushing tests are being carried on, there may be spills and leakage in several locations,” the official stated.

The GJB has urged residents to report any signs of water leakage to enable swift action. “We have asked the locals to notify immediately if any such case occurs. We also request the public to inform us immediately if they encounter such problems. This will help in the process,” the official added.

Despite these assurances, residents remain sceptical, with many pointing out that recurring issues indicate a lack of proactive maintenance by GJB. As leakages continue to disrupt daily life, calls for improved oversight and timely intervention are becoming more urgent.
