Guwahati: Nichols School Student Succumbs To Heat Stroke

 

GUWAHATI:  The parents of a class four student of Nichols Higher Secondary School, Guwahati are upset with the school authorities as according to them their 10-year-old girl succumbed to heat stroke on August 6. The girl fell ill standing under the sun in the school premises where a condolence prayer meet was organised on August 4, right after the summer break. 

Talking to G Plus the father of the deceased said, “On August 4, a condolence prayer meet was organised by the school for a deceased student where all the students were made to stand under the scorching heat for an hour. As a result, many students fainted due to the heat and my daughter was one of them”.

The father said that the school authorities sent the children back home after school and did not inform the parents about the incident. The father alleged that his daughter vomited blood while she fainted and fell down but the school authorities denied the allegation when confronted.

Talking to the media, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) superintendent Abhijit Sarma said, “On being admitted to the hospital on August 4, the patient’s recorded pulse rate was 110 and the blood pressure was 90/50. The patient’s condition was critical and a bleed in the brain was found. She was immediately admitted to the ventilator. She died on August 6”.

G Plus tried contacting the school authorities till the time this report was filed, but they were not available for any comment.

Meanwhile, the parents of the deceased are yet to file a case with the police.
