GUWAHATI: A man has been arrested for molesting a girl in broad daylight in the Rukmini Nagar area of Guwahati on Friday, July 30.

The alleged molester stopped the girl on the street to apparently ask for directions, and groped her breasts as she was about to answer him.

Taking to Facebook to narrate the incident, she wrote, “Writing this in utter disgust and frustration!... For a second I lost sense of what had just happened,”

The girl however quickly recovered her wits and nabbed the miscreant as he tried to make his getaway on a two-wheeler. “But seeing him try to elope (sic), I spared no second thought and dragged him with the highest strength my body could exhibit in such an uncanny situation. While he kept racing his scooty up, I kept lifting his back tyre and sustained some half a minute of wordless tussle until I could finally push him down into the drain,” she further wrote.

People witnessing the incident came forward to help the girl, and handed the miscreant over to Dispur police. The victim lodged an FIR, case number 2719/21, under sections 354/365/511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Dispur Police Station (PS).

The accused has been identified as Madhusana Rajkumar, age 30, from Batahghuli, Guwahati. He hails from Cachar district.

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Dispur PS Mukut Kakati said that the matter has been taken seriously and the accused is being forwarded for investigation.

The victim also wrote, “People like these are a grieving cause of women’s subordinate status in a society, where we constantly have to struggle to break societal barriers of women needing “protection”.

“Today’s experience was a harsh contradiction to my assertions where I proudly kept claiming that my home, Assam is a safe haven for women as against the nasty encounters of Delhi or other parts of North India that worry women’s status of safety,” she added.

Referring to the arrest of the accused, Commissioner of Police Hardi Singh tweeted, "We’re committed to bring all criminals, who are the enemies of society, to justice,"
