GUWAHATI: The ₹300 crore facelift of the NH 27 stretch from Khanapara to Jalukbari is witnessing a huge and rapid construction of the roads including four flyovers and one vehicular underpass (VUP) in the last year. With the construction of all four flyovers and one VUP, the traffic congestion in the NH 27 is a nightmare for commuters.
To ease the congestion and for public convenience, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to open the flyover at Boragaon and VUP at Lalmati for the public before August 15 this year.
The completion period of the project is 910 days.
The appointment of the consultant and contractor was on March 3, 2022; therefore, they have to complete the project by August 10, 2024.
But because of speedy work, the project will be completed by January 2024, said a source in NHAI.
It needs to be mentioned that the project will be completed by January 2024 as claimed by NHAI officials but because of the speedy workflow, the construction work of the flyover at Boragaon and the VUP at Lalmati is “almost” complete.
A commuter travelling through the road every day talking to G Plus said, “If NHAI wants the Lalmati VUP can be opened for the public next week,” adding that the VUP at Lalmati is 100% complete.
A senior official in NHAI talking to G Plus said, “Around 90% of work at Boragaon flyover and around 95% work at Lalmati VUP is almost complete,” adding that the month of July will be required to complete everything.
The official claimed that before August 15 the Boragaon flyover and the Lalmati VUP will be open to the public without any inauguration ceremony.
He said when the entire project will be completed, there might be a function by the government.
The conversion of the four-lane Guwahati Bypass from the Jalukbari Point to Basistha Chariali to a six-lane road will be a reality by January 2024, if the claims of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) come true.
The project includes the construction of four 6-lane flyovers along with 6 lanes of approaches from Jalukbari Point to Basistha Chariali on Guwahati Bypass (NH – 27) under Bharatmala Pariyojana on an engineering procurement construction (EPC) basis.
There will be a total of 26 numbers of box culverts constructed between Jalukbari to Basistha.
The consultant for the project is M/S TPF Engineering Pvt. Ltd. in association with M/S MAV Associates LLP.
The construction contractor of the project according to NHAI is M/S Dhariwal Buildtech Ltd.
The road will be converted from four lanes to six lanes (3 lanes on each side) with service lanes on both sides with roadside drains.
The total project length is 16. 448 kilometre (Jalukbari to Basistha Chariali), within which there will be four flyovers at Boragaon, Gorchuk, Lokhra, and Basistha of 80-meter lengths each.
The budget for the construction of the Boragaon flyover is ₹25.32 crore, the Gorchuk flyover is ₹25.64 crore, the Lokhra flyover is ₹31.83 crore and Basistha flyover is ₹28.89 crore.
