GUWAHATI: Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal laid the foundation stone of the proposed Maligoan flyover on 11th October. Among others present during the occasion were PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of Parliament (MP) Biswajit Daimary.

The construction of the flyover is to be undertaken by the PWD (Roads) department after Durga Puja. The Maligoan flyover will be the longest in Assam with a length of 3 km, with an estimated cost of Rs. 420.75 crore. The construction of the six-lane flyover is targeted to be completed within two years.

It extends from Maligoan at one end up to Kamakhya Temple gate at the other. The said flyover will connect the new road that is currently under construction at the Nilachal hill to the main road, via an extended arm to the Pandu Ghat road. This will facilitate easy transportation of commuters from Guwahati Airport to Kamakhya Temple.

Upon its construction, the present road to Kamakhya temple from the foothills will be available for traffic commuting from the Bharalumukh side. The traffic from the airport side will have to take the flyover to Pandu and reach the temple by taking the new route.

Speaking on the occasion, PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that another flyover will be constructed from Nepali Mandir, Rehabari to near B. Barooah Cancer Institute. Construction of the said flyover is to start from February 2021.

Another six-lane flyover is to be constructed from Guwahati Club to Bamunimaidam, an 8 km long flyover. The project is currently at its initial stage of the proposal.
