GUWAHATI: In an operation conducted by the Jalukbari Police Outpost (OP) under the West Police District, a counterfeit currency racket was busted near Mirza. The operation also led to the apprehension of the suspect involved in producing fake Indian currency notes (FICN) on October 10.
According to official reports, the accused individual, identified as Mofidul Islam aged 29, hailing from Monar Gaon, Lakhimpur district, was apprehended at Jalukbari near Bhupen Hazarika Samadhi Sthal.
Following an interrogation, it was revealed that Mofidul Islam was part of an illegal FICN network operating in the region.
The investigation led to the subsequent revelation of another accomplice named Rofikuddin from Laluk Islampur, also in Lakhimpur.
Rofikuddin was allegedly operating an underground FICN network from a rented house at Mirza Rail Gate.
Subsequently, a raid was executed at Mirza at 11:00 PM, resulting in a substantial seizure.
Law enforcement agencies uncovered a FICN Printing Machine, as well as counterfeit notes amounting to a total of ₹2,16,500.
These counterfeit notes primarily consisted of 433 fake currency notes in the denomination of ₹500 each.
Legal proceedings have been initiated on the apprehended and further details are awaited.
