GUWAHATI: A businessman is suspected to have committed suicide by jumping into the Brahmaputra River in the Sukreswar Temple Ghat in Guwahati on Wednesday, July 6. His body is still missing.
The man identified as Sunny Mandal is from Dhupguri in Guwahati.
Speaking to G Plus, the Sub Inspector (SI) of the Panbazar Police Station (PS) said that they received information about the incident at around 2.30 PM on Wednesday.
The Police immediately called the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) team and the rescue operation has been continuing for the second day today.
According to the SI of Panbazar PS, the man worked as a medicine distributor in the Panbazar area of the city.
Before jumping into water, Mandal reportedly called his mother and informed her about the extreme step he was going to take.
The Sub-Inspector further told G Plus, “His brother came to the Police Station and confirmed that the man is his brother, who decided to commit suicide. He also recognised the footwear we recovered”.
Further investigations are ongoing.
