Government Reshuffles Key Positions In Assam's Environment And Forest Department

GUWAHATI: In a move aimed at optimising public service and bolstering conservation efforts, the Environment and Forest Department of the Government of Assam has announced significant transfers and postings of key personnel within its ranks. In a recent notification, the Governor's Office detailed the changes that will take.

Vaibhav C. Mathur, an experienced officer of the Indian Forest Service (IFS), who had been serving as the Director of the Manas Tiger Project, is now slated for a new role. He is set to take over the responsibilities as the Conservator of Forest for the Lower Assam Social Forestry Circle located in Bongaigaon. This change will come into effect on the date of him assuming the charge and will continue until further orders are issued. This move follows the transfer of Rajen Choudhury, IFS, who was previously serving in this role.

Additionally, Choudhury, who was in charge of the Lower Assam Social Forestry Circle in Bongaigaon, has been reassigned. He is now appointed as the Conservator of Forest for the Eastern Assam Circle in Jorhat. This repositioning will remain in effect until further directives are issued.

Furthermore, Rajib Kumar Das, IFS, previously serving as the Forest Utilisation Officer in Assam, has been elevated to the position of Conservator of Forest. This promotion was made official through an order dated April 24. Das will now assume the mantle of Director at the Manas Tiger Project. This transition is set to take place on the date he formally takes charge and will continue in effect until further notice. This change is in response to the transfer of Mathur from this role.
