Gold Theft Racket Busted In Guwahati, Jewelers Among Five Arrested

GUWAHATI: Police dismantled a gold theft ring in Guwahati on Monday, July 15 night, arresting five individuals, including two thieves and three local jewelers, at Kahilipara.

According to sources, the two thieves had stolen gold worth ₹7 lakh from a house in Kahilipara on July 8, an incident captured on CCTV. The police subsequently launched an extensive search operation.

The investigation resulted in the arrest of the culprits who revealed that they had sold the stolen gold to jewelers in the Lakhtokia area for ₹5 laks. 

The police recovered the stolen gold, which had been melted into a plate, along with a motorcycle, tools used in the theft such as screwdrivers and wrenches, and melee weapons. 

The two arrested thieves have been identified as Xun Kumar Das from Satgaon and Lal Chandra Ali from Barpeta. The arrested jewelers are Akbar Ali, Nirmal Mandal, and Jivan Karmakar.

Talking to GPlus, a police official from the Bhagaduttapur police outpost said, “ We nabbed them yesterday, and are further investigating the matter.”
