Golaghat Gets Assam's First Park Library

GUWAHATI: A first-of-its-kind 'park library' was inaugurated in Golaghat, Assam, on Monday. In this unique library, visitors can browse books while taking a stroll.

As per media reports, Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan, Assam unit, and an NGO established the facility at Sankardev Udyan.

The library has around 150 books in Assamese, Hindi, and English.

The library's concept is to allow visitors to spend time reading books while relaxing in the park's tranquil surroundings. Books covering various topics, from fiction to current events, can be found in this library. They are suitable for people of all ages, according to Abhishek Singha, the founder of the NGO 'All and Sundry.'

Singha told the media an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) corner on Agriculture, Health, and other topics have also been established with the assistance of the District Agriculture Office and the Office of the Joint Director of Health Services.

Singha said they had asked people to donate books and that the IAS Officers' Wives Association had already contacted them.

They have also written to the Assam students' union at Delhi University, requesting that books be donated. Good-condition used books will also be accepted, as per media reports.

According to Namita Jallan, state president of Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan, the library's hours will be determined by the park's opening and closing times. She also stated that the Golaghat Municipal Board had provided the necessary space and physical infrastructure to establish the library.

"We've developed the space creatively, using posters and other embellishments," Jallan added.

The park library initiative promotes reading habits and encourages people to spend more time outside. The initiative is gaining popularity among locals and will likely attract more visitors in the future.
