GMC To Organise Awareness Programmes To Mark Gandhi Jayanti

GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) is set to organise various events in the city with a view to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Wednesday.

The GMC along with ‘United Way of India’, a Delhi-based NGO, will organise a ‘India Plog Run’ which will be attended by members of area level federation and self-help groups working under DAY-NULM (Assam State Urban Livelihoods Mission Society).

The municipal body will also hold a mass awareness programme on October 2 at 46 locations in all 31 wards of GMC. NGOs involved in door-to-door garbage collection will participate in this programme and will create awareness among local citizens in their respective areas.   

Further at 12.00 pm, Governor Jagdish Mukhi will visit Solapara Harijan Colony and will interact with the Safai Karmacharis. Officials informed that the GMC will felicitate the first three graduates from the colony, those who have passed HSLC examination with first division, and candidates with commendable performance in sports.

The municipal body will also felicitate best sweepers, flying squads, NGOs and self-help groups under the GMC who have remarkable work.
