Giant Moon Replica Set To Grace Science Festival At IIT-Guwahati

GUWAHATI: India International Science Festival is to be held in IIT-Guwahati from November 30. A giant, 10-metre-high replica of the moon would grace to celebrate recent wins in space by India. A stunning lunar model by renowned British artist Luke Jerram, will be installed as a tribute to the successful Chandrayaan mission.

This 1:50,00,000 scale replica, measuring seven meters in diameter, boasts detailed NASA imagery of the moon's surface. Each centimeter of the illuminated sculpture represents five kilometers of lunar terrain, providing a dazzling visual experience for festival-goers.

IIT-Guwahati will host the four-day event, organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in association with Vijnana Bharati, an NGO working for scientific popularisation. "The aim of the science festival is to celebrate the achievements of India in the frontier areas of science and technology, " said Science and Technology Minister Jitendra Singh.

It would bring all the participants together from all over the globe and discuss India's vision for 2047, focus on science and technology in the Northeast, workshops for educators, discussion sessions with nuclear energy for a self-reliant India, and many celebrations on science in literature.
