Gaurav Gogoi Loves Neither Hindus Nor Muslims: Himanta

Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attacked Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi who is contesting from Jorhat in Lok Sabha elections during a poll campaign rally in Chabua. Sarma criticised Gogoi for offering Eid namaz while participating in protests on the day of Ram Mandir consecration.

He questioned Gogoi's religious allegiance, pointing out that while Gogoi had offered Eid Namaz alongside independent MLA Akhil Gogoi in Sivasagar, he was holding rallies and agitations with Rahul Gandhi during the Nyay Yatra in Assam on the day of Ram Mandir’s consecration.

Talking to the media, Sarma said, “Gaurav Gogoi seems well versed in the rituals of offering Namaz. I don't know where he learned it. But the question arises, if he and Akhil Gogoi showed such devotion during Eid, why did they not do the same during the Ram Mandir Pratistha?" Sarma accused Gogoi of engaging in appeasement politics towards the Muslim community, emphasising the need for development and job creation instead.

He further alleged that Gogoi had not visited Ram Mandir or Kamakhya and questioned his devotion to other festivals. Sarma said, "People like him love no one. Neither Hindus nor Muslims."

Sarma commenced his campaign from the river island of Majuli in Upper Assam on April 1. The Assam chief minister since then is camping in upper Assam and has been addressing many rallies and road shows to support all the BJP candidates contesting from the five Lok Sabha constituencies going for polls on April 19.

Sarma started the campaign on April 1, named Vijay Sankalp Yatra, with a cycle rally that saw participation from BJP workers. Till 17th April, Sarma aims to cover approximately 40 assembly segments in Upper Assam before the 1st phase polls.  On April 12,  the rally was at Chabua.
