Gauhati HC Directs State To Bring Instructions On Denotification Of Deepor Beel Wildlife Sanctuary 

 

GUWAHATI: On an interlocutory application filed by activist Pramod Kalita, the Division Bench Of the Gauhati High Court headed by Justice L S Jamir and Justice SK Medhi has raised its concern over denotification of the wildlife part of the Deepor Beel which is a Ramsar Site.

The Court had therefore directed the GMDA to furnish instructions on the construction as well as denotification of the wildlife sanctuary in the Ramsar Site.

DK Das,  Advocate for the applicant along with M Khataniar through the application had brought it to the notice of the Court that the State Cabinet has decided to denotify the Deepor Beel wildlife sanctuary as eco sensitive zone through a notification which is in violation of the Supreme Court's judgment.

The Court considering the urgency in the matter has fixed the matter on 3.4.2024 on which date the interim order of denotification as eco sensitive zone would be considered.
