GUWAHATI: Digboi police detained a man posing as a doctor after receiving a formal complaint from the Assam Council of Medical Registration (ACMR). The individual, identified as Purnendu Das, had been treating patients for several years at a private hospital in Digboi town, Tinsukia. He was apprehended during a raid at a private hospital on Wednesday, February 26.

Police revealed that Das had been fraudulently using a Medical Council of India (MCI) registration number belonging to another doctor while operating under the guise of a physician.
An official from Digboi police station stated that following a complaint from the ACMR, law enforcement verified the details before launching the raid at the medical facility. “After confirming the allegations, we conducted the operation and took Das into custody. He is currently being interrogated,” the officer said.
Legal action has been initiated. Further details are awaited.
