Elon Musk Pulls Off Nazi-Style Salute At Donald Trump’s Inauguration, Invites Criticism

GUWAHATI: Elon Musk pulled off an identical hand gesture that paralleled the banned Nazi salute at Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration on Monday, January 20.

The move sparked immediate criticism, with some claiming it bore resemblance to Adolf Hitler’s infamous Sieg Hiel salute. British journalist Owen Jones was quick to draw reminiscence between the two hand gesture, while Israeli publication Haaretz described it as a “Roman salute” commonly associated with fascism.

However, Musk’s own defenders, including the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), stated that the gesture seemed rather more like “an awkward expression of enthusiasm.” The ADL also called for understanding and restraint in the current political climate.

Musk waived off the criticism directed at him for the incident on Tuesday. “Frankly, they need better dirty tactics,” he stated on X. “The ‘everyone is Hitler’ attack is sooo tired.”

Donald Trump, meanwhile, marked his return to the White House for the second term as the 47th President of the United States, defeating incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris to the spot in 2024.
