GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has unveiled the schedule for bye-elections to fill vacancies in several Assembly Constituencies across the country, coinciding with the General Election to Lok Sabha 2024.

The bye-election is scheduled to take place from April 19 to June 1.

Tripura and Tamil Nadu – April 19
Maharashtra and Rajasthan – April 26
Gujarat, Karnataka and West Bengal (Bhagawangola) – May 7
Telangana and Uttar Pradesh (Dadraul) – May 13
Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh (Lucknow East) – May 20
Haryana and Uttar Pradesh (Gainsari) – May 25
Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (Duddhi) and West Bengal (Baranagar) – June 1

The Commission has set up special polling stations in certain constituencies, such as Manipur, to facilitate voting for electors in relief camps. Furthermore, the ECI has diligently updated the electoral rolls, considering multiple qualifying dates across different states. The final publication of the rolls has been completed, with continuous updation until the last date of filing nominations. The bye-elections, scheduled alongside the Lok Sabha polls, reflect the Commission's efforts to maintain the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.
The Model Code of Conduct has been enforced immediately after the announcemnet of the schedule in the district(s) where the entirety or any portion of the Assembly constituency participating in the election is located.
The Commission has decided to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems in all polling stations for the bye-election. Sufficient quantities of EVMs and VVPATs have been procured, and all necessary measures have been implemented to guarantee the seamless conduct of the poll with the aid of these machines.
