GUWAHATI: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) to cease the delivery of Viksit Bharat messaging via WhatsApp without delay. The ECI has demanded an urgent compliance report from MeitY regarding this matter.

The decision comes in response to numerous complaints received by the Commission indicating that Viksit Bharat messages continue to be delivered to citizens' phones despite the commencement of the General Elections 2024 and the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

In its defense, MeitY informed the Commission that while the messages were dispatched before the MCC came into effect, some recipients may have experienced delays due to systemic and network constraints.
