Dry Days Declared In Assam

GUWAHATI: Dry days have been declared in parts of Kamrup (Metro) and Kamrup districts of Assam because of the ensuing Legislative Assembly polls in the neighbouring state of Meghalaya.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Kamrup Metropolitan District DC said, "The Governor of Assam is pleased to declare Dry Days from $ PM of 25/02/2023 to 4 PM of 27/02/2023, including the day of the counting of votes which is fixed on 02/03/2023 is also declared Dry Day till the process of counting is over in the adjoining/bordering areas with Meghalaya (Baynyhut to Khanapara Flyover, 14th Mile, Khetri, Sonapur, Basistha (Pilingkata) Game Village Lohkhora, Pamohi) in respect of holding General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya," the notification stated.

"During this period, the Governor of Assam is pleased to Prohibit the Possession of any intoxicants by any person or groups of persons, the total ban on sale f liquor, giving or distribution of spiritous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of alike nature at a hotel, eating house, tavern, shop or other places- public or private," the notification added.

"All bonded (wholesale) warehouse, IMFL Retail "OFF" & "ON" shops including club & hotel ON and country spirits shops will remain closed during the dry day. During this period, the storage of liquor by individuals shall be curtailed. During the above period, the restrictions provided in the Excise law on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be vigorously enforced. Steps shall be taken to prohibit the sale of liquor in adjoining/bordering areas with Meghalaya. Any violation of the order shall be dealt with under the relevant provision of Assam Excise Act and Rules under the provision of Section 135 (C) of Election Rules to respective constituencies," the notification said.
