GUWAHATI: Donald Trump was officially sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, January 20. This marks his second return to the White House, following his previous stint from 2017 to 2021.

Trump’s oath was administered by Chief Justice John Roberts, but his inauguration was not held at the Capitol steps, as the event was pushed inside the building due to the sub-freezing temperatures on Monday.

The day began with the President and his family attending a private prayer service, followed by tea at the White House with former president Joe Biden. After the swearing-in, Trump delivered his inaugural address, the one that outlined his vision for the nation over the next four years.

"From this moment on, America's decline is over," the president said. "Those who wished to stop our cause tried to take my freedom, and indeed, my life."

His first term was characterised by major tax reforms, trade renegotiations, and his controversial policies on immigration and climate change.
