GUWAHATI: The 24 dogs rescued at Jorhat from being smuggled to Nagaland found a temporary home in Guwahati on Friday, December 17. The rescued dogs are now with the JIRAW NGO (JBF Integrated Care and Resource Centre for Animal Welfare) in Sonapur, Kamrup (M), until they find their forever homes. As per Jorhat police, "they are happily settled for now."
The dogs were rescued after a major dog smuggling racket was busted in Jorhat on December 15. The Jorhat police had arrested one Duku Doley, who had in his possession the 24 dogs illegally caged.
Initial police investigation revealed that the dogs were getting smuggled to the Mon district of Nagaland. "There might be more who are involved in the trade based on what the accused has told us so far," a senior official of Pulibor Police Station (PS) told G Plus. The Jorhat police are now investigating the matter and expect to catch more culprits.
