GUWAHATI: Assam Down Town University conferred the honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt.) degree on Prof. Achyuta Samanta during its 11th convocation ceremony on Wednesday, September 25, 2024. The honour recognises his significant contributions to education and social welfare, particularly his efforts in uplifting marginalised communities. The degree was conferred by Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya.

Prof. Achyut currently a Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) for Kandhamal, Odisha, and serves as the President of the Volleyball Federation of India. He is also the founder of the KIIT Group of Institutions and has received multiple awards for his works in social entrepreneurship, including being named one of the Top 15 Social Entrepreneurs globally by the American Edge Foundation. Additionally, he is named as the youngest chancellor of any university in India, as recognised by The Limca Book of Records.
The convocation took place in the grand amphitheater of Assam Down Town University in Panikhaiti, Guwahati, where degrees were awarded to a diverse group of students from PhD, Post Graduate, and Under Graduate programs. Outstanding students were recognised with gold medals for their academic excellence.
A significant moment in the ceremony was marked by the Best Post Graduate Student leading the Oath of Dedication, inspiring graduates to uphold their professional and ethical responsibilities in their future endeavors.
The event concluded with the signing of the Convocation Book by the Governor of Assam, followed by singing of the National Anthem.
