GUWAHATI: Indian discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya secured his second consecutive silver medal at the Paris Paralympics on Monday, September 2, with a season-best throw of 42.22 meters in the F56 category.

Kathuniya, who previously won silver at the Tokyo Paralympics, achieved his best mark with his very first attempt.
Brazil’s Claudiney Batista dos Santos claimed his third consecutive Paralympic gold, setting a new Games record with a throw of 46.86 meters on his fifth attempt. Greece’s Konstantinos Tzounis took home the bronze with a distance of 41.32 meters.
The F-56 classification is a seated field event for athletes with disabilities, including those with amputations and spinal cord injuries. With Kathuniya’s silver medal, India’s medal count at the Paris Paralympics now stands at eight, comprising one gold, three silver, and four bronze medals.
