Kejriwal was taken into custody on March 21 and subsequently remanded to ED custody till March 28 by a trial court. The Aam Aadmi Party's legal team argues that his arrest and detention are unlawful, advocating for his immediate release.
Following his arrest, Kejriwal sought interim protection from coercive action from the Delhi High Court, which was denied by a division bench. Notably, Kejriwal had failed to comply with nine summonses issued by the ED. His party colleagues, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are also implicated in the case and are presently in judicial custody.
Earlier, Kejriwal had approached the Supreme Court urgently to contest his arrest, but this petition was withdrawn earlier today. He had also previously challenged the summonses issued by the ED in the Delhi High Court, with an application for interim protection slated for a hearing on April 22.

The ED has leveled accusations against Kejriwal, alleging his involvement in a conspiracy to grant significant profit margins to certain private companies through the implementation of the excise policy. They assert that Kejriwal, along with others including Vijay Nair, orchestrated this scheme. Nair purportedly acted on behalf of Kejriwal and Sisodia, according to the agency.
The ED's allegations contend that the excise policy, devised to offer a 12 per cent wholesale business profit to select companies, lacked transparency in its implementation. Kejriwal is portrayed as the central figure in this alleged scheme, as per the ED's assertions.
