CRPF Officer Poonam Gupta To Become First Person To Marry At India's Rashtrapati Bhavan

GUWAHATI: Poonam Gupta, an Assistant Commandant in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), is set to become the first individual to get married at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the official residence of the President of India.

According to reports, the wedding ceremony has been scheduled for February 12, at the Mother Teresa Crown Complex within the presidential estate.

The wedding will be reportedly officiated by President Droupadi Murmu, who has praised Gupta’s hard work and exemplary conduct. This event marks a shift in tradition, blending a personal celebration with national significance at one of India’s most important venues.

Gupta currently serves as a Personal Security Officer (PSO) at Rashtrapati Bhavan and is highly regarded for her dedication to duty. She commanded an all-women contingent during the 74th Republic Day parade, showcasing her leadership and commitment to public service.

Hailing from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, Gupta holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, a master’s in English Literature, and a Bachelor of Education (BEd) from Jiwaji University, Gwalior. She secured 81st rank in the 2018 UPSC CAPF examination.

Before her current role, Gupta additionally served in challenging environments, including Naxal-affected regions of Bihar.

Her fiancé, Avnish Kumar, also an Assistant Commandant in the CRPF, is currently posted in Jammu and Kashmir.
