GUWAHATI: Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Gaurav Gogoi has officially thrown his hat into the ring for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Jorhat, Assam.

Accompanied by party leaders, Gogoi filed his nomination papers on March 26.

Gaurav Gogoi took to X to post, "Filed my nomination as the candidate of @INCIndia for the Jorhat Parliamentary Constituency today. This nomination represents aspirations of the youth, women, the marginalised, the farmers and every hard working person of Assam who is eager for change and development. The Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency, reportedly holds significant electoral importance, having witnessed 11 elections since 1971. Historically, the Indian National Congress (INC) has dominated the seat, clinching victory on eight occasions. However, the political landscape has seen occasional changes, with an independent candidate and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) securing victories once and twice, respectively.
The election process in Assam will take place in three phases, starting on April 19. The official notice for the election for the first phase was issued on March 20, and candidates have to submit their papers by March 27. The papers will be checked on March 28, and candidates can withdraw until March 30.
The second phase of the election is on April 26. The notice for this will be out on March 28, and papers have to be filed by April 4. They will be checked on April 5, and candidates can withdraw until April 8.
The final phase of the election is on May 7. The notice for this will come out on April 12, and candidates have until April 19 to file their papers. The papers will be checked on April 20, and candidates can withdraw until April 22.
