Videos circulating on social media show a group of people chanting slogans during the festivities. Some students claim that the slogans included "Palestine Zindabad," allegedly disrupting the event. The incident took place during an annual Diwali program organized by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Tensions escalated when members of a certain group allegedly damaged the rangolis created by students and kicked over the diyas, sparking a confrontation between the two groups. The clash reportedly took place inside Gate No. 7 of the university.

"The incident occurred around 7:30-8 pm near gate 7. A group of students affiliated with the ABVP were putting up diyas and making rangolis for Diwali, which displeased another group of students. The other group wrecked the decorations, which led to a scuffle. Both sides engaged in sloganeering," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Southeast Ravi Kumar.

Footage from the event reportedly shows the situation escalating into a physical altercation as slogans were chanted. The ABVP issued a statement saying the exact cause of the incident is still under investigation. Security personnel intervened to bring the situation under control, and police have been stationed outside the university overnight. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
