Central Government Announces Hike In MPs’ Salary, Allowance, And Pension

 

GUWAHATI: The central government has notified an increase in the salary, daily allowance, and pension for Members of Parliament (MPs) and Ex-Members of Parliament, with effect from April 1, 2023. The revised rates come as part of a move to adjust financial benefits to current inflation levels.

The monthly salary of MPs will rise from ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,24,000, while the daily allowance will increase from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500. Additionally, the pension for Ex-MPs will be raised from ₹ 25,000 to ₹31,000 per month.

Ex-MPs will also benefit from an additional pension increase, with ₹2,500 now being provided for each year of service beyond five years, up from the previous ₹2,000.

The decision, which is based on the Cost Inflation Index as specified under the Income Tax Act, 1961, is aimed at providing financial relief and aligning these allowances with the rising cost of living. The revised rates will be applicable from April 1, 2023.
