This action follows the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) against Mahua Moitra by the CBI just a day ago.

Reportedly, the probe was initiated after the anti-corruption body Lokpal instructed the CBI to investigate allegations against Mahua Moitra and submit a report within six months. Additionally, the CBI has been directed to provide monthly updates on the status of the investigation.

According to reports, Mahua Moitra's expulsion from the Lok Sabha in December last year stemmed from accusations of accepting bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for posing questions critical of the Narendra Modi government in Parliament. She was also alleged to have disclosed confidential log-in credentials for the parliamentary website, enabling Hiranandani to post questions directly.

While denying the bribery allegations, Mahua Moitra admitted to sharing the log-in details, citing common practice among MPs. She has contested her expulsion in the Supreme Court.
