Canadian PM Expresses Concern Over Farmers' Protest; to Defend Rights of Peaceful Protest

GUWAHATI: The farmers' protest in India has reached foreign shores.


Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, expressing concern on the ongoing farmers' protest in Delhi said, "Canada will always be there to defend the rights of peaceful protest."


“The news coming out of India about the protest by farmers. The situation is concerning and we are all very worried about family and friends. I know that's a reality for many of you. Let me remind you, Canada will always be there to defend the rights of peaceful protest,” said Trudeau while addressing an online event on the occasion of the Guru Nanak Jayanti.

The farmers' protest against the three Farm Reform Bills, 2020 has entered the sixth day.


Following the protests, the Centre has invited the leaders of the different farmers' unions for talks today, 1st of December, two days prior to the scheduled date of 3rd December.


"Keeping in view the cold and COVID-19, we have invited leaders of farmer unions for discussion much before the scheduled December 3 meeting," said Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.
