Brahmaputra Water Recedes in Guwahati, 1 Death Reported From Sonapur

GUWAHATI: One more death has been reported from Kamrup Metro’s Sonapur area in the last 24 hours as incessant rains continue to wreak havoc across the state of Assam.

The water level in the Brahmaputra River at Guwahati which had crossed the danger mark has now receded and is at 49.28, just below the danger mark which is 49.68.

Water lever, however, is above the warning mark which is 48.68 as per the District Disaster Management Authority’s (DDMA) Report as of this morning. 

Meanwhile, floods have affected around 24.3 lakh people in over 2,254 villages across 24 districts of Assam so far as per Assam State Disaster Management’s latest flood report.

Over 48,000 people are now taking shelter in 468 relief camps and centers set up across the state. 

More than 1,00,000 hectares of crop area is now submerged underwater with close to 24 lakh domestic animals both big and small affected by the disaster.
