Boxing Academy to be set up in Guwahati

Boxing Federation of India (BFI)  President Ajay Singh on Monday said that one of the BFI's eight residential satellite academies will come up in the Northeast and Guwahati is the "ideal place" for it.

BFI has already signed MoU with AIBA and the Central Government in this regard. Accordingly, there will be a world class and there will be eight satellite academies with modern infrastructure across the state.

BFI President Ajay Singh said, “As far as Guwahati is concerned, this Women’s Youth World Boxing Championship is the second major championship in last two years. And, for the satellite academy, Guwahati seems to be an ideal place. Assam Government has shown that they are extremely keen and eager to move quickly on sports, and boxing in particular.”

Apart from being the academy frontrunner, Guwahati will also be the home to one of the teams that will participate in the BFI Boxing League starting in June.
