GUWAHATI: The Bimala Nagar Bishnupur Puja Committee in Guwahati has announced a scaled-down Durga Puja celebration this year due to the ongoing construction of a flyover near the Cycle Factory. With space constraints and safety concerns, the committee has decided to keep the festivities simple, forgoing a thematic approach and opting for a more modest idol and decorations.

The usual grandeur associated with the Bishnupur Puja has been toned down, with the focus on subtle and basic decor. Despite the scaled-back arrangements, the spirit of devotion remains strong, and the committee encourages devotees to participate while respecting the limitations imposed by the construction.

Speaking to GPlus, a committee member of the Bimala Nagar Bishnupur Durga Puja said, “We could not acquire the permission from the police to organise the Puja as the road construction is going on nearby which started just recently. So, this year we have kept the puja celebrations and decor to a minimum. But, we are still expecting people to arrive in large numbers.”

The Bishnupur Durga Puja will still expect a huge footfall of residents and devotees alike as it is still one of the most sought after puja in Guwahati. No theme has been selected for this year for the Bishnupur puja, keeping it as subtle and simple as possible.
