GUWAHATI: The Bangladesh government announced on Sunday, November 17, that it will pursue the extradition of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from India. This decision was revealed by interim leader and Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus.

In a televised address marking his first 100 days in office, Yunus declared his intent to hold Hasina and those who confide in her responsible for the unrest and associated human rights violations during her tenure. “We will seek the return of the fallen autocrat Sheikh Hasina from India," Yunus stated.
The interim leader further went on to add that investigations would be conducted regarding the alleged enforced disappearances and other abuses under her government.
A special tribunal in Bangladesh had earlier requested Interpol to issue a red notice for Hasina’s arrest, while the Yunus-led administration is now urging the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the violence and has initiated discussions with ICC chief prosecutor Karim Khan.
The student-led agitation that had gained momentum in July quickly escalated into a nationwide movement against Hasina’s 15-year rule, resulting in chaos and violence that claimed over 600 lives. Yunus assumed leadership as chief advisor of the interim government three days after Hasina’s resignation and departure.
