Baby Elephant Rescued From Pit In Assam Tea Estate

GUWAHATI: An elephant calf, estimated to be five to six months old, was found trapped in a narrow pit within Section 28 of the Sonajuli Dholakua Tea Estate on November 12.

The calf, part of a herd of multiple elephants passing through the estate in search of food, had fallen into the pit, sparking a tense situation.

Witnesses reported the calf’s mother attempting repeatedly to rescue her young, but her efforts proved futile. Estate workers noticed the calf’s struggle and alerted the forest department.

Forest officials soon arrived and took charge of the rescue operation, using various methods to safely free the calf. The herd remained close by during the entire effort, adding to the urgency of the situation.
